A
Rough
Poetry
The culmination of my Capstone work at Sheridan College, A Rough Poetry is a collection of objects, mostly furniture, inspired by Brutalist architecture and its ethos. The warmth of the cherry wood contrasts what is often, and I would add incorrectly, described as a cold or hostile design language. Humanist at is core, Brutalism has always been about the negative space it creates rather than the structures themselves. This collection makes way for being together.
“Brutalism tries to face up to a mass-production society. And drag a rough poetry out of the confused and powerful forces which are at work”
Alison and Peter Smithson
